Meeting Last night

We had another productive meeting last night. Here is a review:

1. By asking the right questions and really looking into the details, we "found" and extra $130,000 in the curriculum budget. That takes us another step away from privatizing and cutting programs. The rest of the budget will undergo scrutiny as well over the next year.

2. We are developing an award for a HPS Citizen of the Year award to recognize folks who support HPS. A committee has been formed to work out the details and information will follow.

3. Rick Terres introduced some revenue enhancement ideas, including reaching out to non-public school students. The most exciting thing I heard about the effort is that any revenue will be put into an account to open Parker as a second high school. If you have questions about this program, please let me know. Details will follow as they develop.

4. The Board is moving forward with the Superintendent search. This has not been the smooth process I had hoped for. There are still folks out there who are trying their best to throw this board off track. What a shame. We should all be rallying around this process and making sure we get the best candidate possible. Instead, we are forced to deal with sneaky efforts to undermine the process. I hope any of you who have received disparaging e-mails about the board will come to a meeting and judge for yourself.

No, no, no... you're doing it all wrong. You're supposed to tell everyone that you've "cut to the bone" then try to ram through another giant millage!

What kind of school board is this?

Hmmmm, you sure know a lot about lesbians and rug munchers? Care to share a little more, Joe2cool and Burgermeister?
It's turning me on!

Such a skeptic Nick. There are districts that have NOT increased tax rates with school millage elections.

However that might sound like some flat earth or black helicopter talk to you.
