Getting Past the Past

Last night we held a Board workshop designed to start the conversation about expectations between Board members and the Superintendent. Overall, it was a pretty good process.

We identified some ideas of how we want to communicate and how we can move the District forward. The Board seems to have realized that it is time to get busy making sure that the new Superintendent can be successful; he can't be successful unless we get our act together.

I am not sure how we get past the past. It is a tall order for everyone on the Board to put aside the deeply intense feelings we have over past events, including the firing of our last Superintendent and the recall.

Our best chance seems to be in having positive things to focus on. We are way overdue for Board Goals and strategic planning. That should enable the district to focus on the future. It should also help us focus on what we should be focusing on, policy issues.

I am hopeful that the days of eye-rolling, snarky comments, recalls and the like are over. Only time will tell.
